About Kyte
What is Kyte?
Kyte is an interactive personal broadcasting platform enabling you to create your own multimedia channel either
online or via a mobile phone. With Kyte, you produce shows featuring videos, photos, slide shows or selected
music tracks and broadcast them in real time to your Facebook or MySpace profile, personal website, blog or
mobile device. You always stay connected with your audience via chats or polls and may share your channel by
inviting your friends to broadcast shows too.
What is a channel?
A channel is a collection of shows. It's all you'll need to start broadcasting shows in real-time. To create
your personal channel pick a name that represents you and what you want to communicate. You can also customize
your channel by uploading a logo and adding a background.
What is a show?
A show is what you produce using your media content and the Kyte creation tools. With the Kyte tools you can easily create customized slideshows, interactive polls, videos, picture collages, and more. After producing a show, you broadcast it to a selected channel in real-time. You don't even have to own a channel to broadcast a show - when you find a channel that you're interested in just click on the 'Produce' button.
What is a TV?
A TV is an embeddable Flash player that is tuned to a particular Kyte channel that enables you and your friends to watch shows. You may also place a TV on your blog, website or social network profile page and interact with your audience, no matter where they watch.
What is LiveChat?
LiveChat enables you to chat with other viewers who are watching the same channel, in real-time, no matter where they are watching from: web or mobile. On the web and with the Kyte mobile application, you can also chat with video and audio.
What is Kyte mobile?
Kyte mobile allows you to create shows from your mobile phone, watch the latest Kyte shows and chat with viewers. There are two options to enjoy Kyte while on the go: Kyte mobile web and the Kyte mobile application.
Kyte mobile web can be used from almost any mobile phone that has a browser and a data plan. Watch the latest shows and chat with your friends. Create shows by simply sending your pictures and videos via email. There is even a special version just for the iPhone.
The Kyte mobile application, is a downloadable program that gives you advanced show producer tools and multimedia chat on our phone. You can produce shows featuring videos, LifeStream slideshows, and more.
What is a LifeStream show?
A LifeStream show is a real-time broadcast of your life from your mobile phone. Broadcast your photos and chat with your audience as they witness your life on the go in a slideshow. You can create a LifeStream by using the Kyte mobile application.
Account and Registration
Do I need an account?
You don't need an account to watch channels or to participate in LiveChat, but you do need an account to create a channel, create shows on the Kyte website, and use the Kyte mobile application.
How do I change my password?
Go to 'My Profile' and click on 'Edit Account'. From there, you click on 'Change Password.'
What if I forgot my password?
Click on the 'Forgot your password?' link on the login area and enter your username or e-mail address. Click on the 'Get password' link and we'll send you an e-mail with your password.
Can I change my username?
Yes, just go to your Profile and then select Edit Account. Next to your name, select Change.
Is there an age restriction for users?
Yes. Kyte is designed for users 13 years of age and older. If you are under 13 years old, there are lots of other great websites for you. Talk to your parents about what sites are right for you.
Features and Functions
What's the difference between Live and Most Watched channels?
Live channels are channels with a live audience listed by popularity. Most Watched channels are channels that have been viewed the most over time.
How do I create a channel?
Click 'Produce' at top of the Kyte.tv website. If you are a new user, just create a show and a channel will automatically be created for you. If you already have an account, in the Select Channel dropdown, select Create New Channel and give your channel a name. Note that when you are viewing your My Channels list, there is also a Create New Channel link at the bottom of the channel list. This option provides more flexibility on defining your channel design and settings.
Can I have more than one channel?
Yes, you can have many channels in your account.
How do I edit my channel design?
After creating your channel, click on the link 'My Channels' and select the channel you would like to edit. Then:

How can I allow only my friends to contribute to my channel?
To limit the users who can contribute to your channel, you can set a passcode and share it with your friends.

As a channel owner how can I keep control over the submissions to an open channel?
You can have control over the submitted shows even if you keep the channel open for all users. Simply choose within the channel details to review the content before broadcasting.
How do I delete a channel?
Go to 'My Channels' and find the channel that you want to delete.

How do I produce a show?
After you have created a channel or found an existing channel you would like to produce a show on, click on the 'Produce' button within the TV. If you are on the Kyte site, you can also click the Produce icon at the top of the page. Note that a channel may require a passcode in order to produce shows.
Which features do you offer for producing shows online?
The Kyte Show Producer offers a range of production features such as slideshows, pictures and videos. You can also attach selected music files to your show by using the 'Music Player' widget which provides you with a selection of licensed music tracks. By using the Webcam widget you can produce a video using your webcam that is immediately published on your channel. With the advanced producer tool you can attach interactive features such as a poll or customize your show by adding text or links.
What video file formats can I upload?
Kyte supports the following formats: FLV, MOV, AVI, MPEG, MPEG-4, 3GP, WMV. If you have trouble uploading one of the formats listed it may be because the file size is too large or we don't yet support the codec used to create the video file. If this happens, Email us at support@kyte.tv with the video file you were trying to upload and we'll work on supporting it soon.
Is there a size limit to uploading a video file?
Yes, the current limit is 100MB per video file.
How long will my show play?
Your show will be broadcast permanently within your channel. The most recent show is what's displayed by default, but you and your viewers can navigate back to past shows within a Kyte TV.
Who can produce shows?
When creating your channel, you can decide whether you would like to limit other people from broadcasting shows to it by setting a passcode. If you set a passcode for your channel, only friends who know the passcode can produce and broadcast shows. If you don't set a passcode, anyone can produce and broadcast shows to your channel. However, you can still have control over the content – simply select in the channel details whether you would like to review shows before they go live.
Can I delete a show?
You can delete a show if you are the owner of the channel or if you are a registered user who produced it. To delete a show, just go to the channel that contains it and select the show thumbnail within the navigation bar. Then click on the menu button in the upper right corner of the show's thumbnail and select "Delete." Once it is deleted, the show cannot be broadcast again.
How can I edit shows?
You may edit shows if you are the registered user who produced the show. To edit, simply select the channel and the show within the navigation bar. Then click on the menu button in the upper right corner of the show's thumbnail and select "Edit" to make your changes. After editing click 'Update' in order to broadcast again. If you are the channel owner and do not want a show to be broadcast on your channel, you can delete the show.
Can my show be broadcast to multiple channels?
Currently a show is only broadcast to one channel.
Is there a Kyte application for Facebook?
Yes, when you add the Kyte application for Facebook you can easily view your friends' latest shows and chat with each other via text, video, or voice chat. When you produce a show on the web or on mobile, your friends are automatically notified via the Facebook News Feed.

Where and how can I embed a TV?
You can embed a TV on your blog, website or social networking profile page. Once you find a channel you want to embed, click on 'Embed.' On the embed page, you can do a "quick post" to a select list of sites, or you can copy the embed code and manually paste it into the web page's HTML. You can also choose from additional player layouts by clicking Advanced Options.
How do I embed a TV on MySpace?
From the Kyte embed page, click on the MySpace button in the quick post section, enter your user information (not stored by Kyte), and click Post.
Or, to embed a TV manually, copy the embed code, log in to your account on www.myspace.com and then:

How do I embed a TV on Facebook?
From the Kyte embed page, click on the Facebook button in the quick post section and then click Post. You will be taken to Facebook to add this channel to your Facebook profile.
How do I embed a Kyte TV on sites such as Blogger, WordPress, Piczo, Friendster, etc?
From the Kyte embed page, click on the desired site in the quick post section, enter your user information (not stored by Kyte), and click Post.
To embed a TV on other web pages, copy the embed code and paste it into the web page's html.

I embedded a TV on a web page but I only see a white background. Why?
We designed the TV so it has a transparent background, but if you see a white background, it may mean that your browser doesn't support that feature. Try using a different browser or upgrading your browser.
Can I change channels on a TV?
When a TV is embedded, it is tuned to one specific channel. If you'd like to feature more than one channel on your blog, website, or social networking profile, you can embed several TVs. Note that the Kytefeed allows viewers to see shows on other channels, but this is only available if the viewer is signed in to Kyte.
What if I don't have my own website or blog to embed a TV?
You can still produce and broadcast shows to your channel on the Kyte website and provide your friends with your channel URL (www.kyte.tv/channelname). Or encourage your friends to embed your TV on their social network profile, blog or website.
How can I control the chat on my channel?
You can restrict chat to the Channel Owner only or require users to sign in prior to chatting. You can also turn on a profanity filter. To change these settings, go to your My Channels list and select Manage Channel, then select Edit Channel Details. You will see these settings under the Channel Moderation section.
How can I tell how many people are watching a channel?
The number next to the 'eye' icon within the TV tells you how many people are watching a channel. If you want to check out what they're talking about, just click on the 'LiveChat' button.
How many people can I chat with on LiveChat?
You can chat with as many people on LiveChat that are watching the channel.
How do I report an error or give feedback?
The Kytefeed keeps you up to date on recent activity on your favorite channels. When viewing a channel that you like, click "Subscribe" and the channel will be added to your Kytefeed. You can view your Kytefeed within a TV, on Kyte mobile, and on the Kyte web site. You can even view your Kytefeed with an RSS reader or get updates via email.

Kyte Mobile
How much does Kyte mobile cost?
Kyte.tv does not charge for its service, however you will need a data plan with your wireless carrier. Please note that if you don't have a data plan your mobile carrier will charge you based on connection time and/or the amount of data uploaded and/or downloaded.
What do I need to use Kyte mobile?
For Kyte mobile web, you'll need a phone with a browser and a data plan. For the Kyte mobile application, you'll need a Kyte account, a supported phone and a data plan.
What phones are supported?
You can use Kyte mobile web on almost any phone that has a browser and a data plan, including the iPhone. If you go to Kyte mobile (m.kyte.tv) and you see a link to "Download Kyte mobile," this means that your phone can run the Kyte mobile application.
What is the difference between Kyte mobile "web" and the Kyte mobile "application?"
Kyte mobile web (m.kyte.tv) runs in your phone's internet browser and does not require an installation on your phone. The Kyte mobile application is a java program that is downloaded and installed on your phone. With the Kyte mobile application you can use the advanced show producer tools like LifeStream and Show Wizard and create video or audio Livechat.
Why can't I download the Kyte mobile application even if I have a supported phone?
If you have a Sony Ericsson phone, you might need to change some of the settings. First, check to see if
your phone is set to the correct date and time. If you still cannot download the application, you may need to change
some of the settings on your phone, especially if you purchased an unlocked phone.
Here are the instructions to set up the settings for an unlocked Sony Ericsson phone:

How do I set up my phone so that the Kyte mobile application doesn't have to ask permission to connect every time?

Your handset does not recognize Kyte mobile's certifications. Your handset's internal clock may be set to the wrong
date. Check and reset your phone's clock to the current date and time, reboot it, and retry the installation. See your
handset owners guide for detailed instructions.
What is a LifeStream show?
A LifeStream show is a real-time broadcast of your life through your mobile phone. Broadcast your photos and chat with your audience as they witness your life on the go. LifeStream is included in the Kyte mobile application.
Can I create a channel?
You can only view and produce shows on Kyte mobile. To create a channel you'll need to use the Kyte website.
What kind of shows can I create with Kyte mobile web?
You can create slideshows or video shows on your channel by simply sending them to the channel's email address (channelname@kyte.tv (note: if the channel requires a passcode, use channelname.1234@kyte.tv, where 1234 is the passcode)).
What kind of shows can I watch with Kyte mobile web?

What kind of shows can I create with the Kyte mobile application?
You can create a picture show, slideshow, video show, audio show, text-based show, poll, video or LifeStream, the special live-broadcast show. If you just want to create a simple picture show, use the QuickPix feature. With QuickVid you can capture a video that is directly broadcast to your channel.
What kind of shows can I watch with the Kyte mobile application?
You can watch any kind of Kyte shows, including videos, slideshows, and audio shows. You can also use the interactive features such as LiveChat or polls.
Why don't I see the option to record video or audio in the Kyte mobile application?
If you don't see the menu option for QuickVid or QuickAudio this means that your phone does not allow Java applications to record video and/or audio. Note that you can still record video with your phone's built-in camera application and then send the file to your channel's email address (channelname@kyte.tv (note: if the channel requires a passcode, use channelname.1234@kyte.tv, where 1234 is the passcode)).
What is the Nokia Web Upload?
The Nokia Web Upload allows you to send pictures and videos from your Nokia NSeries phone's gallery directly to your Kyte channel. Simply configure your Nokia Nseries Web Upload with your Kyte settings and you are ready to broadcast your high resolution images. Click here for configuration instructions.

How come I can't open the links from the audio player, link widget, etc.?
Please change the settings of your pop-up blocker in order to allow pop-ups for Kyte.tv.
Why do I get incorrect characters when writing a chat message?
You are probably using Firefox and a non-US keyboard. If you are using a keyboard with a foreign configuration
(e.g. German, Dutch, Italian, etc.) please select a different browser to be able to use the chat properly.
Why am I unable to upload large video files?
There is a known problem that occurs on some Windows systems with McAfee Redirector Service installed. While producing a show, they are unable to upload video if the McAfee Redirector Service is turned on. If you encounter this issue, please try the following:
- From the Start Menu, select "Run"
- In the Run dialog, type "services.msc" and select OK
- In the Services dialog, find "McAfee Redirector Service" in the list of Services currently running
- Right click on this item and select "Stop"
A restart of the system should not be necessary in this scenario; however, if the problem persists, restart the system to see if that resolves the issue.
Why can't Kyte access the internet on my Sony Ericsson phone?
In the settings menu, go to the Connectivity sub menu. Make sure that Internet Settings and Java Settings are both set up to access the internet.

How do I report inappropriate content?
If you do feel that a show is really bothersome because you think it is pornographic, obscene, violent, racially or ethnically hateful or otherwise inappropriate according to our
Terms of Service you may flag it within the channel itself. Simply click on the button at the right top of the show thumbnail, select Flag, and follow the instructions on the screen. Please note that you have to be logged-in in order to flag content as inappropriate.

Why was my content removed?
