FAQ — Termination of Free Service
This FAQ is for the Kyte free service only. If you are a paying Kyte customer, this FAQ does not apply to you
(please contact your Kyte support representative if you have any questions).
Why is the Kyte free service being terminated?
Following our acquisition by KIT digital, the Kyte technology is now being offered exclusively as a professional,
paid service. Unfortunately, we can no longer maintain the free service.
When will the Kyte free service be terminated?
The Kyte free service will be terminated on Tuesday August 30, 2011.
Can I keep my Kyte account if I become a paying customer?
Kyte's parent company, KIT digital, serves medium to large media companies, publishers, and broadcasters.
If you publish professional level content, please visit the KIT digital web site
to learn more. Contact sales
if you would like to speak with someone about setting up a professional account.
Can you recommend another video service to use?
There are several video platforms that offer free, express, or premium packages. Express or premium packages are
usually fairly low cost and offer extended functionality beyond free services. Try a web search, or perhaps a
consumer offering like YouTube or Vimeo will meet
your needs.
What will happen to the Kyte player that is embedded on my site?
On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, the Kyte player will no longer serve content for free accounts and will display an
error message. We recommend that you remove the Kyte player embed code from your site and consider replacing it
with a player from another video service.
Can I download my content from Kyte?
Yes, if you wish to download your media please do so by Monday, August 29, 2011.
Please follow these instructions to download your media:
- Log into kyte.tv.
- The "My Kyte" section will display a list of your channels on the right.
- Under channel name click Manage Channel.
- The Manage Channel page will display.
- Click Media Download URL's.
- A new tab/page will launch with a list of all shows and media on the channel.
- For each show, right click the Download link and click Save Link As.
- If you have multiple channels, go back to the My Kyte tab/page and follow the above steps for each channel.
There is no download link for some of my shows, or I try to save a file, but nothing happens.
There is either no media file associated with that show or it is a corrupted file and cannot be saved.
It is likely a webcam video or other file that was never uploaded successfully.
Do I need to delete my account and my media?
No, all of your account information and media will be purged from the system starting Tuesday, August 30, 2011.
